Fiberglas stakes burned by the fire.

Photograph taken October 15, 2005.

The stake in the upper left has been pulled up about an inch to expose an unburned portion. The fire burned the plastic resin out of the stakes leaving behind only the glass fibers.

Salvia dorrii at the 9,000 foot level in the Spring Mountains

I found this plant growing along the Lee Canyon trail on broken limestone. At high elevations, the species tends to be more compact in form. The highest elevation at which I have observed the species is at 10,000 feet in the Schullman Grove of the White Mountains, Inyo County, California.

Wasps(?) pupating in Salvia dorrii

The wasps(?) appeared to have assembled this "nest" from large sand particles glued together with a sticky substance such as sap. The "nest" smelled very stongly of Salvia dorrii. Photograph taken in May 1993 just east of Walker Pass, Kern County, California.
