Pleistocene Lake Mono overflowed to south through Adobe Valley and Benton to the Owens River.

Ipomopsis congesta, typically found in the high passes, such as Koip Pass, Parker Pass, and Tioga Crest, has been collected on the fresh water sandstone at the Adobe Hills Spillway.
