No. 989, 20 July 2013, characters observed while keying: Perennial, to 30 cm., clumped, rhizomed; Roots, fibrous; Rhizomes, fibrous, appearing much like roots; Stem, herbaceous; Internodes, hollow; Leaf blades and sheath differentiated, soft; Inflorescence, spike (unbranched central axis), spikelets many; Compression, unremarkable; Disarticulation, infl. axis below glumes; Spikelets, similar, 2-ranked, 2 per node, sessile; Florets, 2+ per spikelet; Glumes, 2, reduced to awns, 45 mm., upper and lower ±equal, entire; Lemma, glabrous, awns 1, 40 mm., straight to bent in maturity/dryness; Palea, veins extended as short bristles.
