Coll. No. 1034, 31 August 2013, characters observed while keying: Herbaceous annual or biennial, to 35 cm., rigid hairs with hooked branches at tip; Sap slightly milky (seen mostly at base of phyllaries); Leaves basal and cauline, alternate, 11 cm x 18 mm wide, oblanceolate, slightly glandular, margins entire, not spine-tipped; Involucre 14 mm; Phyllaries in 4-5 series, the outer series are wide and stand away from the rest, the inner series are narrow, appendaged at tip; Receptacle epaleate; Flowers all rays; Pappus of well developed bristles, ±equal, broader at base, plumose; Corolla yellow, readily withering; Fruit 3 mm x 0.5 mm wide, brown, annular ridges or decoration giving the appearance of a small insect pupa.
