This keyed out fairly easily to Chaenactis glabriuscula var. glabriuscula by way of TJM2 Asteraceae Group 7. However, the location of this collection is way out of range for that taxon. There is one other collection of this taxon from the eastern Mojave (H. S. Reed, s.n., May 5, 1935, Wheaton Springs, UC914160) for which the determination or location has been questioned. If the corolla color is described as “... rarely pale yellow ...” then the Chaenactis key takes one to a determination of “Chaenactis hybrid.” However, the yellow color of the corolla looks strong to me, which pretty much forces one into Chaenactis glabriuscula.
